About Queen’s School of Medicine
Before submitting your Queen’s University medical school application, take time to study the school, understand its culture, admission requirements, selection process and more. This will help you to figure out if it is the right medical school for you.
The Queen’s School of Medicine was founded more than 150 years ago. The school offers a wide array of post graduate programs and has a mission to prepare excellent physicians and leaders in the health care industry. The school embraces innovation and inquiry in all areas of education and research. The school offers a 4-year accredited undergraduate program to attain the degree of Doctor of Medicine.
The Queen’s University fosters personal interactions between students and faculty members. Students from this medical school are guaranteed to gain relevant, extensive and hands-on experience in different medical settings. Their curriculum is designed to emphasize self-directed learning in different forms such as class lectures, seminars, symposiums and group learnings. Opportunities to offer primary care in different partner sites in Oshawa, Peterborough, Belleville and other smaller communities in southeastern Ontario are available for students.
The Selection Criteria
Queen’s School of Medicine admits 100 citizens/permanent residents and 5 international students every year. These students are selected based on their academic abilities as well as non-academic abilities which are assessed based on the materials sent with their applications. The school believes that both academic abilities and certain personal characteristics are key for studying and practicing medicine in future.
To be admitted to Queen’s School of Medicine, you must fulfill the following minimum requirements:
– Have a minimum of 30 course credits by the end of the academic year in which you intend to submit your Queen’s University OMSAS application.
– Fulfill the minimum GPA requirement for that year.
– Complete the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) prior to the OMSAS Application.
Candidates will be invited for an interview at Queen’s University on the basis of their GPA scores, MCAT scores, autobiographical sketch and letters of reference.
The Autobiographical Sketch
The Interview Process
The autobiographical sketch is among the materials used by Queen’s School of Medicine to determine if you possess the personal attributes and achievements fit to join the school.
Assessors will evaluate the sketch based on 7 important categories: formal education, employment, volunteer activities, extracurricular activities, awards/accomplishments and publications/research activities done prior to applying for medical school. It’s important for applicants to select only items that are relevant to their application for medical school. The assessors will analyze each item and the qualities they represent. Candidates are also required to list the time taken for each activity as well as the location and provide a brief description.
A personal assessment must be done to ensure candidates selected fit to join Queen’s School of Medicine. There are two interviews, a panel-type interview and a mini-interview. The offer will be given based on your ability to maintain a strong academic standing while at the school. The candidate’s personal attributes will also be assessed during the interview.

McGill Medicine (MD)
"MedApplications helped me with both my essay preparation which brought me to the big interview and with interview preparation. MedApplication's services provided me with not only an insight of how to tailor an application to bring out the best of my ability but it also gave me the confidence I needed to survive the MMIs.
Accepted to UWO Medicine (MD/PhD)
"I enrolled with Med Applications one month before my first interview. I had been preparing for interviews by reading books and discussing questions with friends and family, but I was still nervous and didn’t really know what to expect. I felt so much more comfortable after my session with MedApplications. My instructor was very knowledgeable and catered the session to what I needed work on (as I had both panel and MMI interviews, this was particularly beneficial). It was very useful to cover topics with someone who knew what to expect from an interview and could comment on the quality of my answers. All together the experience was extremely helpful and very reassuring; it significantly calmed my nerves during my interviews. There weren’t any questions I was surprised by in my interviews. I would definitely recommend a session for future students."

"I used MedApplications mock interview service because I wanted to practice and receive feedback from a current medical student. I found the mock interview helpful in identifying weaknesses in my answers and improving on them to make them stand out. I would recommend MedApplications to anyone who wants extra preparation to gain confidence for medical school interviews."

"I went into my first MedApplications session without a clue about what MMI's were or how to prepare for them. After meeting and practising with Eric and Kent, however, I learned all of the tips and skills I needed to ace the interview. They were incredibly knowledgeable and encouraging and their help gave me that extra boost of confidence on interview day. Thanks MedApplications!"

McMaster University Medicine
"I used the MedApplications seminar and mock interview services before I had my interviews at Queen's and McMaster medical schools, and I couldn't be happier with my decision. Their seminars were incredibly helpful in providing information about the interview process and ways to truly emphasize your best qualities in an interview. Their mock interview session was great as well as it gave me an opportunity to practice my interviewing style with a current medical student! If you are looking for a way to prepare for an interview as important as the ones for medical school, I would definitely recommend MedApplications."
