Many diverse Nursing councils in Canada and the United States provide the Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner Education (PHCNP). In Ontario, the Council of Ontario University Programs in Nursing (COUPN) is comprised of nine universities offering the Nurse Practitioner program. Within the Nurse Practitioner stream there are both full-time and part-time opportunities. Most full-time programs combine a Master of Nursing with an ACNP Diploma, providing the educational and clinical support in combination.

ACNP programs can be geared towards diverse specialities include: Adult Specialty, Neonatal Specialty, Pediatric Specialty, Chronic Pain Specialty, Primary Care Specialty, Geriatric Medicine or Emergency Medicine Specialty.
